The Africa & Diaspora ministry is hosting its First Annual Africa & Diaspora Day as part of Saint Augustine's 150 year anniversary. Our black tie evening extravaganza (traditional attire recommended) features live entertainment from around the globe, international cuisine, an African-inspired fashion show, a silent auction and a keynote speech by Fr. Cyprian Davis—world-renown author and historian on Black Catholics. The evening's Mistress of Ceremonies is the dynamic, Liberian-born Emira Woods, an internationally recognized activist and expert in U.S.– Africa relations.
It is going to be a phenomenal evening and we look forward to having you join us for the festivities! A limited number of tickets for the evening extravaganza are on sale.
Proceeds will go to support & rehabilitate female victims of femicide (rape and other brutalities) in the Democratic Republic of Congo and for food aid in Haiti.
In addition, we will be producing a beautifully designed keepsake program for the event that will contain information on the Church, cultures, history, and traditions in Africa and the Diaspora. To place an ad in the program, send an email to AfricaandDiaspora@gmail.com. See above for pricing.
Invited guests include Mayor Adrian Fenty, Ambassador Amina Salum Ali of the African Union, Councilmember Jim Graham of Ward One DC and Bruce Johnson, anchor for WUSA 9.
**Special thanks to the Washington Informer and The Africa Society of the National Summit on Africa for their generous support.

St. Augustine Church is the oldest Black Catholic church in the Nation’s Capital. As the Mother Church of Black Catholics, St. Augustine Church continues in the tradition in which it was founded, as a strong Black Catholic institution which witnesses in faith to the Living God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit. The purpose of the Africa & Diaspora ministry is to keep the Saint Augustine parish informed of social justice issues concerning peoples of African descent who are now around the world. Through this information, the parish is able to aid our brothers and sisters by raising funds or collecting needed items. This group also keeps in contact with our sister parishes in Philadelphia, Brazil and South Africa.
